Athletic Bilbao

Un-PC in a way.

Errrmmm…is that the Spanish flag I see in the bottom left corner, next to the letters S-P-A-I-N? For a team that defend everything that is Basque? I cannot imagine many Athletic fans being to pleased to find this in their hands once they’d torn through the Panini DWHOF pack (when are they coming out, by the way?).

Just count yourselves lucky that ETA’s on a permanent ceasefire.

...“one of the few clubs who don’t have a sponsor on their kit…” [Sighs wistfully] Of course, it’s a very Bilbao thing to decide to get a sponsor and then sign up with a petrol firm.

I think I’d have to dispute the idea that the most successful period in the club’s history was when Clemente was at the helm. After all, we won the La Liga in 1929-30, 1930-31, 1933-4, 1935-36.

In short, despite things going relatively less successfully at the moment, it does no harm to remember that we have won 8 leagues, 23 cups, 1 Supercopa de Espana.

But credit to you for recognising Athletic’s contribution to football. As well as having a bloody marvellous podcast.

Agur!
