Great podcast. Curious how you guys regard Higuita as an important colombian player, the scorpion stays on the memory, I suppose. A great deal of colombians hate his guts, he’s a really lousy goaly. Both Valderrama and Higuita played at Millonarios for a very short time and failed. “El Pibe” actually was transferred to Deportivo Cali for a small amount of money, and in that team he got recognition for his playing style. With Bernardo Redín, he formed one of the most memorable midfields in the history of colombian football. They were supposed to win the league with Deportivo Cali, but in that time, drug lords (Hermanos Rodríguez - Cali Cartel) controlled local football and they only got to be second (Cali Cartel’s team and city rivals - America de Cali - were the champions). That’s why he’s so critical to referees, and the explanation for showing the 50.000 pesos bill against one of the most corrupt referees Colombia has ever seen (Óscar Julián Ruiz, although he’s highly regarded in CONMEBOL and FIFA). Oh, and Valderrama was not born in Barranquilla, his hometown is Santa Marta.
