We were almost called C.R. Alvares Cabral (another portuguese explorer)

When Vasco play Flamengo we always share the Maracana stadium. Flamengo has the left stands and Vasco has the right stands.

Opposition teams twice used ‘chemical warfare’ to try and defeat Vasco. In 1966 a botafogo supporter doped the entire team’s tea with barbiturates, and in 1979 a Bangu supporter used itching powder on Vasco’s uniform and was promptly arrested trying to escape after vasco’s player were seen running back into the dressing rooms scratching themselves furiously.
