That’s not really true from the best of my knowledge.  The pictures still need to be loaded up, they are just ‘hidden’ from your view.  It might make them SFW from the perspective on your screen but it’ll still give rise to your work firewall or whatever flagging up unsuitable images.

Is it ok to double post? I find it easier than clicking edit for some reason.

I don’t get why people go a bit mental over double posts, then again I don’t know how it’s harder to click ‘edit’.

A spoiler function of sorts would be useful. For example, I just posted a link to something which detailed who all the newspapers and magazines slected for the Sports Personality of the Year award. If we had the spoiler fuction, people could choose whether to view the huge list of people, instead of having to click the link. If they don’t want to see the list it would be hidden and thus not taking up loads of room on the page.

IDEA: Could we possibly have it so that our ‘Location’s are displayed underneath our avatars, but encourage people to just fill that field in with the team that they support?

Agreed, great idea to put the team you support underneath your avatar. smile

On the SI Community, I used to use the location to display the last match I attended. It’s interesting to see what games people are going to I think

The location thing is a nice little idea. Good stuff. I’ve activated whatever you put in the location field to appear below your avatar. Use it as you wish or come to an agreement on what you want to use if for. A good place to express yourself as the screen name lockdown will happen in the next few days.

As for the NSFW spoiler, I’m not sure we have the flexibility to implement that. It’s an interesting idea that I’ll look into but for the mo stick with tagging your threads with that.

Pretty much every time I type a response and click “Submit post” it takes me back to the blank response.

I end up copying and pasting the response and keep hitting submit reply until it takes it

Im running Windows XP and Firefox as my browser

I understand the need for advertising on the site, and have no problem with that. But the Def Jam video at the bottom every now and then sparks into life and is quite dam loud.
It’s a bit annoying really. Is it possible for ads that only make a noise when you put the mouse over them.
No worries either way though, tis understandable

Yeah sorry about the ad thing, especially if you got caught with Tim Westwood’s voice repeatedly while it we were still tweaking it (no-one deserves that!). It *should* now only appear once per user and is then cookied so you don’t get it hammering you.

But do feedback and let us know if it’s causing problems.

Asked in another thread but didn’t get a response (probably rightly as it should’ve been in here), but why are related threads (e.g. managers getting sacked) getting merged all the time? Is it that necessary? Having a separate topic to read about Hughton/Newcastle and Allardyce/Blackburn would surely produce more interesting discussion than one massive thread covering all sackings and appointments.

some feed back from me, i understand why some threads get merged into one big one but if i’ve started a thread or contributed to one then find its been merged onto one massive one i cant be chewed looking through hundreds of replys to find the point where my bit is, would be a lot more enjoyable if this was kept to a minimum

I’ll take a look at this.

If the thread is specifically about a manager, then I agree that it shouldn’t be merged with another manager’s thread. It’s a different topic effectively.

Thanks for raising top hat

Any chance of making a link open in a new tab when you click on them instead of current tab? I am too lazy to hold CTRL when I do it.

How about introducing ‘sections’ to the site like Football Talk, Music, Film etc…It might stop the need to merge EVERY thread on one subject into one as they’d all be in one place, in their own subject. I really want to get involved in the music chat one but can’t be effed going through 350 posts to make sure I’m not duplicating what other people have written.

Also, how about closing threads if they’re inactive for a while so you don’t have to keep looking for old threads to write on just so you’re not duplicating?

This.

Also, make it easier to see if you have been quoted, so you don’t have to go through every thread every time to see whether someone replied to your posts.

Good point that. would quite like this although not sure whether it would be possible…

Agree on the sections. I feel we have enough posts/threads/members to warrant sections.. xD

Looking into doing this for external links only.

I can only put this down to the site not being optimised for mobiles (although this forum is temperamental anyway). Would like to create a proper, fast-loading mobile version of the site in the new year.

NEW! All audio on the site (podcasts, dwhof) now has the option to listen to it in a pop-out window, so you can continue to listen whilst browsing the rest of the site. Something certain people (Marcus) had been asking for.

I’m really not sure how hard it is to do but I’ve seen it done before..

being able to tag people so that when you direct something at them they get a notification telling them they’ve been tagged, this would also work for quoting. would save you reading through pages to see if anyone disagrees with you so you can SHOUT back at them.

Hey lads -

The Picklive widget on the front page of the site is redirecting my Yankee self to a “Picklive doesn’t operate in your country” notice which is A) bigger than the widget box (necessitating the addition of scroll bars into the iframe)  and B) pretty ugly. I can understand why the notice might be up for folks trying to sign up for an account from Bahrain or Portland, Oregon or somewhere, but the widget shouldn’t be subject to the same restrictions (I don’t think).

Might be worth talking to the guys over there, so that your widget doesn’t go all ugly for the rest of us. Anyway, even if I can’t participate I like to see how folks are doing. Bit like having the league table to the right.

1. Control Panel at the top of the page and the ‘Edit Avatar’.
2. When you type a post there a link on the left of the text box with all the Smileys.
