Just watched Downfall. Bruno Ganz who plays Hitlers performance was absolutely outstanding

I would have rather watched him for the whole film rather than what they do which is show you loads of different characters but pretty decent film nonetheless

Having read many books on WW1&2 I was a bit apprehensive about this film. I get hung up on historical inaccuracies in films…a pet hate. I was blown away by this film, it may not be 0 accurate (we can’t possibly know…did he escape to patagonia as some claim etc etc) but it’s as close to the ‘official’ history of those final few weeks as anyone will ever get.

the central performance is stunning but the different characters you refer to are also an integral part in the downfall of the third reich

A wonderful film

Sat down with Buck last night, a inspiring documentary that made me look at horses in a completely different light. It’s about erm, Buck (Brannaman) a horse trainer from the US who travels round the country passing on his techniques to train horses in a non aggressive manner. Not just about putting a saddle on a steed, more of a psychological insight into how the owner affects the horse and vice versa. Really worth a watch.

Tin Tin surprised me tonight, after hearing so many good reviews I decided to put my scepticism to one side and see if it was any good - and it’s a big thumbs up here. I read the comics as a child and was really underwhelmed when this came out but I missed a trick not seeing it at the cinema. Even in 2D in looked amazing, it never allowed the pace to dip and the big chase scene in Morocco was fantastic. Spielberg strikes again.

I watched The Deer Hunter the other day, quality film but I spent most of it thinking about how much John Cazale looks like Dimitar Berbatov.

The Muppets was good fun, although I couldn’t quite shake the differences in their voices. Seeing as the film relies on and is targeted with a heavy nostalgic angle, it affected being able to associate the old with the new. Obviously I know there is no Henson around to do certain voices etc so I guess it’s an escapable fact of their evolution. Good to see them back though.

Went to see ‘A Dangerous Method’ yesterday great performances by Fassbender and Mortensen, but Knightly let herself down with a terrible Russian accent, and she plays parts at the beginning are not needed (i wont ruin ti for other people) and are over the top imo.

But still a great movie with a terrific cast

it really frustrated me! Everyone has a normal accent, at least something like an english accent, and then kiera has this fucking annoying Russian accent. No one else had an accent? i don’t know if that was to portray her organic, natural character, but it was distracting wasn’t it…

Good performances across the board though really.

Took the words out of my mouth why the fuck give her an accent then the rest of them speak English with no accents? That frustrated me if they all had accents I think hers would have stood out as it was very consistent throughout.

I didn’t really like Deer Hunter, I found it overly long and very tedious. Apart from the performances and two or three set pieces, it was nothing more than a crappy film.
Mark Stong bares a resembelance to Berbatov, also.

Finally got to see Le Havre, a simple heart warming tale set in the small french town. Very retro and minimalist in style, characters and narrative which makes it very easy to follow an hypnotic small town tale.

Pretty sure I’ve seen this film talked about in this thread but can’t for the life of me remember the name of it. It’s the documentary that’s an interview with a hired killer or something of that ilk who’s supposed to have killed over a hundred people. Pretty sure it’s in spanish.
Anyone help me out with the name of it? And more importantly whether it’s worth watching?

Caught Carancho last night, an Argentine film starring Ricardo Darin (The Aura/Secret In Their Eyes). It starts off slowly but is well paced to immerse you into the drama as the film grows. It is about dodgy lawyers/hospitals in Argentina that profit off the back of the ridiculously high amounts of car accidents that take place around the country, ripping off insurance companies and the victims families. Made a couple of years ago but out in the cinema tomorrow I think and well worth seeing.

Big fan of that myself after seeing it recently. Reminds you of the magic these little puppets possess and what an addition they can be to a kids life. Also makes you appreciate the skill involved, with some nice behind the scenes insights.

So it compares well to the X-Men films?

I’ve just found a film on Netflix called Caveman starring Ringo Starr which is quite tempting…

I’ve seen most of the X-Men films but won’t claim to be an expert on them, I thought they are ok.

Hugh Jackman just is Wolverine really. His back story is pretty good fun.

I just finished watching Annie Hall. It’s early to know for sure but I think it will end up in my top 5 movies of all time.

This was the first film we showed at our first ever ‘Rom-Com Tuesdays’ at Uni. After watching it, my next door neighbour said the following :

“It wasn’t really a rom-com was it?”

So I watched the usual supspects last night… not sure what I made of it really. I guessed the ending pretty early on which was disappointing.

I guess I liked it, but I’ve been left empty!

Anyone seen Rampart?

I guess it’s not really a conventional rom-com in the ‘two people, stuff happens, they end up together at the end’ narative, but to say it isn’t a rom-com would be plain silly.

Watched Hugo last night (fake someone brought back from hols in Thailand LOL )

Thought it was an excellent film, but what was even cooler was that I recently borrowed off my friend Air’s Le Voyage Dans La Lune. And I watched the film, so when it came up in Hugo it was awesome. I loved the film a lot more than I though I would’ve because of that.

To say i guessed it 100% would be a lie, but it didn’t like blow my mind when it was revealed… not sure if was meant to. I’d already been thinking as soon as the mention of the ‘character’ ... I won’t go on afraid of spoiling it etc. just saying I wasn’t surprised.

The thing is, you knew there was a twist right? That takes 50% of the affect away. It’s like knowing you’re going to have a surprise birthday party but the only thing you don’t know is the venue and who’s gonna show up.

When I saw it, god knows how many years ago, I had no idea there was a twist and it blew my mind.

Every event that he describes could be complete and utter bollocks. Literally, all of it.

I don’t know, I literally knew nothing about the movie at all. I wasn’t really expecting a twist. I’d just totted up events in my head and ok, I didn’t properly guess it - like I may have suggested. I just don’t think that being the twist blew my mind as much as it should have done. perhaps I’ll rewatch it… although I’m kind of gutted it didn’t make me feel WOAH, because I know the twist properly. ARGH. maybe I’m just frustrated!

Saw Young Adult last night and what a great performance by Charlize Theron. Really rolled up her sleeves and played a rude, half psychotic lost girl but you can’t help buy sympathise with her come the end. Really darkly funny too.

I just watched ‘Hard Candy’, it’s on iplayer at the moment. It’s a good film, really well acted and gripping. I wouldn’t watch it if you’re squeamish though, I don’t think a scene has ever made me so uncomfortable as one in this did. (if you’ve seen it, you’ll know which bit I mean)

That bit had my legs wrapped up and curled in as if to protect mine. It’s a great twist on conventional horror and Ellen Page is just great in it.

Saw Chronicle on Saturday… Meh. It wasn’t good, nor was it bad. A solid 5 out of 10, didn’t really get the need for the POV style shooting, that idea felt a little forced & ironically took you out of the action rather than into it. There was some spiel about the camera being a barrier between him & the rest of the world, which is an interesting concept, but wasn’t really explored & just felt like it was an excuse rather than a reason to shoot it in POV.

Today was definitely a Sunday afternoon to watch a film, and I watched White Chicks. Horrible, crass, crude, insulting, vulgar, stupid… but bloody funny in places, and that’s all it’s supposed to be. A definite, and ashamedly, a guilty pleasure of mine. It is rubbish, but so rubbish it’s enjoyable.
