Fucks sake. Goonita and I bought a flat last month and then last week a debt ‘removal notice’ turned up at our door addressed to the tenant that was living at ours before we bought it.
G called the enforcement officer to let him know that we had moved in and the the fella in debt had gone. He then said he ‘needed’ to come round at 6 am and verify we are who we say we are. Fuck that. No debt collectors are coming to mine without written proof of their exact intentions and their rights so I called the bloke and asked him to send an email or letter explaining why he needs to come to mine and under what legislation - he hung up on me three times when I was trying to explain that I wasn’t against him coming over but I’m not letting people charged with removing stuff from people’s house to cover a bad debt anywhere near my home - he said he was coming round anyway and looked forward to seeing me. All very menacing.
I phoned the company he works for and the nice lady I spoke to said they wouldn’t be bothering me again and said that if I send an email, they will respond confirming that the matter is closed. Three emails later and I’ve heard nothing and then when I called back just now, they refused to tell me if it’s being or has been dealt with.
I now have no idea if someone is going to turn up at my door and try and take my shit or if it’s sorted - G is scared, I’m fucking furious and I don’t know what to do. I’ve got no forwarding address as the bloke who left was a tenant.
Imagine having the conversation with your other half about making sure the door of her new home is double locked and that she needs to be ready to call the police if the heavies turn up.
It’s not even my fucking debt.
Almost the exact same thing happened to me in a former rental property. They turned up on the dot when they said they were going to, mob handed with two big blokes to (presumably) take our stuff, so I answered the door with my passport and rental agreement in one hand, and my big meat cleaver in the other. Needless to say, they were extremely courteous and accepted that I was telling the truth, and duly fucked off.
