Can I redirect all enthusiastic viewers of this thread here:
@UKNHL
http://UKNHL.wordpress.com

It’s a work in progress and I’m still the lone blogger / contributor, but I’m sure this will grow with time.

The lovely lads over at UKNFL have given us the green light to start up properly as perhaps a sister site or maybe just a cousin site. Or possible just a distant relative site. Either way, the point is, the guys at UKNFL said they were looking to expand and were happy for this to be set up.

So anyone who has a passing interest in the NHL, come have a look! PLEASE!

I promise you I’m not just bumping this thread for the sake of it. I genuinely need to ask if anyone on wordpress knows how to set a timer or something for the automatic news slider at the top of a blog? Mine’s just sticking on one report and not automatically scrolling anymore.

I have a general NHL question I am going to the US in September, New York to be exact and I would love to catch a Rangers game will there be games on then I think I read somewhere that it is preseason in September. Does anyone have a schedule for September?

Goodluck!

Schedule for September will likely not be released until June/July. It is definitely pre-season in September, but this just means that tickets will be easier to come by and likely cheaper to boot.

I need the help of some of the US based fans of the NHL. Or for that matter any NHL fans that might have been to a game.

Firstly, any pictures you’ve taken, that you don’t mind me submitting to a magazine along with an article I’m writing, would be hugely appreciated.

Secondly, the article itself is about why it’s worth going to an NHL game and how to get the most out of your ticket. So if anyone who’s been to an NHL game knows any ins and outs, has any advice, tips, suggestions, warnings or whatever else that could be used, they’d be incredibly helpful too.

Cheers guys.

Does anyone know if ESPN still covers the NHL in the UK?

No, it’s all on Premier Sports now. Not sure what the coverage is like, I don’t have Sky or Virgin.

Jens, I went to the Lightning home opener last season so have a few pictures I could send you if grainy photos from the cheapest seats in the house are any good?

As for the stuff around the game I was on my honeymoon at the time so it’s a miracle my wife agreed to be dragged along in the first place let alone doing anything else while were there so I can’t help much with that I’m afraid.

Yeah, just send them over and I’ll have a look through them see if there’s any that could be used. Could I possibly throw a couple of questions your way when I’m planning the article if needed? I know you said you might not be much help, but at this point I’ll take almost anything I can get.

I went to the LA/Anahiem game in London game a couple of years ago, but didn’t take any photos. I have a photo of my 102-strong hockey puck collection, although no-one is probably interested in seeing that!

I have a stick and puck signed by Olie Kolzig, apparently he was a pretty good goaltender in his day.

Probably the only German-South African dual national ever to grace the NHL. Damn good keeper, one of my idols (I’m a keeper myself).

You possibly got any tips as to how to make the most out of a ticket then? Like I know your game was technically in England so you can’t really give advice about experiencing a match in America, but when it comes to on ice action was there anything that you wish you’d done or did do that improved the game for you at all?

Just sent a load of photos from the game, it’s a pretty big e-mail so let me know if there are any problems with it or you need anything else and I’ll see what I can do.

Like football, or nearly any sport, I’d say that there is little benefit to be having from buying the most expensive ticket to be right next to the ice. You rarely get a good view of the entire rink unless you are behind a goal, and even then it’s all a guess-game whenever the puck goes up the ice. Sit further back and further up, and get your money’s worth.

I followed the New Jersey Devils for years. But now that’s its on Premier Sports I don’t really watch much of it, unless I’m up at 2am bored, in which case I get a stream up. Used to watch it loads on ESPN and they showed a lot of Devils games. I would be tempted to get Premier Sports for a month when the playoffs are on.

You should follow Hamburg Freezers in the DEL. The German league is a decent standard of hockey, and their fans are every bit as awesome as German football fans. I went to watch Manchester vs. Berlin years ago and with five minutes left in the game, their fans started a giant conga that went all the way round the MEN Arena.
