I say we start a music thread.

New music. Gigs. Your favorites ect ect.

Lets start with a rather old discussion.

Whats At The Drive-In’s best album?

I’m gonna go for Relationship of Command. The best start to any album ever. Arcarsenal, Patterns Against The User and One Armed Scissors. YES. FUCKING MASSIVE YES. Then theres Invalid letter department, rolodex propaganda ect. So very good!

Discuss.

I listened to this recently and it still sounds really fresh. A lot of bands try to do the scatty thing they had going on but few do it to such good effect. In Casino Out is a good album too but it very much feels like everything before Relationship of Command was building up to it.

I actually saw their last ever gig at the London Astoria (how I miss it already), they seemed furious with the crowd and each other by the end of the gig and I wasn’t at all surprised to hear they’d split soon after.

Relationship Of Command is of course their best album and is also 10 years old this week. Pretty good timing eh.

In Casino Out also has some really strong moments

How freaky, I just put this album onto my phone this weekend and have been rocking it non-stop since.  Quality stuff.

If it’s not punk, or ska (or ska-punk for that matter) chances are it doesn’t matter to me.

Last concert I saw: Frank Turner
Next Concert: Gaslight Anthem

Maybe it was some sort of Machiavellian scheme? (Nah, just a fluke!)

I know a few people who prefer Casino but it a bit too Emo for myself. Although old school emo is pretty awesome (rival schools, Reuben, Glassjaw et al) post hardcore destroys it every time.

ATDI left a few high profile gigs because of crowd. They’d get pissed off at people moshing and crowd surfing instead of listening to the music. Which is fair.

Last gig was also Frank Turner. Amazing as ever.

The most recent gig I went to was Les Savy Fav on Friday night. It was great. They are a compelling live band, pure entertainment.

Acrobatic Tenement is the first album I bought so I’ve always favoured that although I listen to Relationship of Command more nowadays. Was lucky enough to see them at Reading 2000 in the Carling tent, I was only 15. Great show.

Ticklish.

We bumped into Tim Harrington outside a kebab shop in Dalston afterwards and tried to get him to come to our house party. he took our address but never showed. New album’s a grower

Hoping to fit in Beardyman and Chilly Gonzales before then too.

My next gig is Architects. I’m going because Norma Jean are supporting and Norma Jean are the greatest band in the world.

My last gig was KISS at the M.E.N. in Manchester, and it was everything I’d ever dreamt of. They were superb, I’d waited 11 years to see them and they didn’t disappoint.

At the moment I’ve mostly been listening to Manchester Orchestra, Four Year Strong, Norma Jean, Mumford & Sons, Frank Turner, Pulled Apart By Horses and Jimmy Eat World.

Beardyman is an actual genius. I saw him in Edinburgh last year as his brother is a good mate of mine and was in the show (Jay Foreman, also amazing but completely different). I’ve never seen anything like it, it was proper standing ovation stuff. He can do more with his mouth than I can do with iTunes.

That wouldn’t happen to have been this show would it?  I watch this on a regular basis as it blows my tiny little mind.

Loving the ATDI love. Omar is a phenomenal guitarist.

The new Arcade Fire album is pretty epic. Speaking of epic, I’m dying to get Faith No More tickets when they come to Dallas, TX.

And also this week I’ve been mostly listening to Super Furry Animals.

Violator by Depeche Mode will always be my favourite. Unmatchable genius. Next few gigs are Badly Drawn Boy, LCD Soundsystem, Goldfrapp, The National, The Wedding Present (playing Bizarro - nice!) and Arcade Fire all in Glasgow

ATDI were great. Must dig Relationship of Command out tonight

Also giving local Aussie act The Temper Trap a spin. I believe they tried their luck at last summer’s festivals back home. Any thoughts?

They’re ok.  Inoffensive, daytime-radio friendly indie.  Hardly going to blow you away, but pretty fun.

The last gig I went to was the Friday at Leeds festival where I saw the amazing Arcade Fire and The Libertines amongst others. The next one should be Foals in the autumn. But there’s some awful bands playing my freshers week at university so it could end up being Diana Vickers or S Club 3 or something.

I personally thought the new Arcade Fire album was a bit so so, not even sure why, just didn’t grasp me as much as Funeral & to a slightly lesser extent Neon Bible.

I watched Natural Born Killers the other day & its started me listening to Leonard Cohen again - the man has smoked too much of something to have a voice like that.

Great thread all smile

Recently, I’ve been mostly listening to:

Robyn - Body Talk Pt.2
Arcade Fire - The Surburbs
Tokyo Police Club - Champ
Sleigh Bells - Treats

All highly recommended.

On a side issue, can anyone tell me what song is used in the latest Saab advert? It sounds like Feist and is a really good song.

this one Luke?

The Suburbs hasn’t been off my car stereo since it came out, quite hard work to get in to, but now I am appreciating it for the masterpiece it is, sublime album…..

Another album worth checking out is Paupers Fields by Dylan LeBlanc. That has been playing on my home stereo system a lot.

Has anyone heard the new Japandroids track Heavenward Grand Prix. Totally epic.

Also in love with Charlotte Gainsbourg’s Album IRM. Heaven can wait is a brilliant song and the fact that Beck (not D) plays on most of the album, well, its class. Decent.

JPNDRDS are the best new band to come out in absolutely ages. I’ve loved everything they’ve done.

I’ve also been lucky enough to have a beer with them, and they are both absolute diamonds.

My brother had to turn down a support slot for them when they were at The Joiners (hottest place on earth btw!). They gave it to a band called Demons though who are straight out of Albert Road and are pretty good. So not all bad I guess.

rikk agnew - oc life
the germs - what we do is secret
wire - outdoor miner
