I hope everyone is (or at least 3 or 4 people are) loving the new Sufjan Stevens album;

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130049247

Also, I love Dan Deacon.

Earlier today, we pointed out some British press reports that MGMT drummer Will Berman had left the stage in Manchester, England Sunday night after being attacked by a piss-throwing audience member. We also reported that the band had said in an interview that Columbia Records, their label, was planning to grant them less freedom in recording their follow-up to Congratulations. But according to an email from MGMT co-leader Andrew VanWyngarden, neither report is true.

According to VanWyngarden, the liquid that hit Berman was not piss but, in fact, “hearty Manchester ale.” Writes VanWyngarden: “As we understand, thrown cups of beer are a sign of affection over here, whereas thrown bottles of urine mean the opposite. So, thank you Manchester for your affection.”

Wyngarden also writes that “label-relations are currently quite friendly” and that they’re “not even close” to making another album. We’ve got the full text of the email below.

We should also mention that one Dan Deacon has emailed Pitchfork News with his own report. His email subject line: “I threw the piss.” Text: “It was me.”

Sufjan went to college in my hometown.  New album is a nice change.  It’s great when artists switch it up a bit, and come out great on the other side.  Nice album

ATDI has a song called Ticklish that I can’t stop listening to. I am of the opinion that Vaya was the best album, even though it’s an EP.
Other personal faves are Git Some, Planes Mistaken For Stars, The Appleseed Cast and Ghost Buffalo.

Willie Miller’s Tache - 17 September 2010 12:05 PM

Grouper - Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill

i like that album a lot but cant get over the time she played in cambridge and started giving the sound man hassle for one reason or another and then stormed off saying she couldnt play because he was messing the sound up.  might be acceptable for a proper rock star to do this kinda thing but when theres only 20 people paying £4 to get in, it made her look like a bit shit.  still, she’s playing london in nov so might go down and see if she does it again,

currently listening to the latest blackest rainbow releases, barn owl and the first wooden shjips album.

Alright Chaps,

I’m back from holiday.

For my birthday, I received no less than 32 records. I can’t be bothered to type them all in here, but I’ll let you all know the ones I enjoy the most.

Anyone else confirmed for ATP’s Bowlie weekend in December yet?

Same here, I also thought of myself as a bit of a music fan and have no idea about who people are on about. I just had a look at Lukey Moore’s little record list and I didn’t know which was the band name and which was the album name.

Started listening to RJD2 whilst in work yesterday, good music to work to.

RJD2 is most definitely on my work playlist too, it’s fantastic to listen to whilst working. RJD2, Prefuse 73, Tycho, Akufen, M83, RATATAT, Erol Alkan, Boom Bip, Vessels & Bonobo are all brilliant to listen to whilst working, they’re all really calming whilst being toe tappers at the same time. If you like RJD2, I’d wholeheartedly recommend all the above if you are unfamiliar with them already.

I’ve recently started to listen to a great band I discovered on Spotify by accident as the name caught my eye. They’re called You Slut! and they are brilliant. They’re made up of members of Amusement Parks On Fire & Mascot Fire to name a couple.

Give ‘em a listen:

Friend and Foe is amazing. One of the best live bands I’ve seen, their mid-song instrument switching is impressive.

Talking of bands switching instruments mid-way through songs, I was watching The Premier League Review Show (or something like that) on Sky Sports the other day and noticed they were using a song by DARTZ! as their default ‘muzak’ (the song played whilst the narrator is talking about the league tables/results/fixtures/etc.). DARTZ! are a great band that sadly split last year, very underrated IMO. Hopefully people might discover them now thanks to the show.

Edit: Apparently ESPN have recently started using them as well. Definitely check them out if you think you’d be into dancey punk songs reminiscent of Fugazi, At The Drive-In, Minus The Bear & Q And Not U, but with broad Teeside accents. You might recognize a few of their songs.

DARTZ! were ace. Miss them. A lot.

Oh and comparing them to 4 of the best best of recent (ish) years….Master stroke.

Hold your horse is are rather epic. http://www.hyhi.co.uk/. Few free tracks on there site. Worth a listen.

Cheers for the reccomendations, out of them I’d only heard of Ratatat, M83 and Bonobo before but hadn’t listened to a great deal of stuff by them, they’re all on one mass playlist now anyway :D

I hope you like them Bauza23…

For me, today is a day of listening to The Hood Internet whilst I work. If you want absolutely genius mash-ups then check them out. They specialize in mashing up hip-hop (either underground or mainstream) with indie rock. They’ve come up with some absolutely incredible stuff that you would never put together, for example Dead Prez vs. Grizzly Bear, R.Kelly vs. Broken Social Scene, Montell Jordan vs. Arcade Fire, Soulja Boy vs. Digitalism, Lil’ Wayne vs. Modest Mouse.

What clinches the deal too is that ALL their music is available for free from their official site http://www.thehoodinternet.com/

Also I can’t start my day without listening to Pogo. He cuts up various sounds from films & then composes a new original song from these sounds. It is the very definition of genius…

This week I have bought A Genuiane Freakshow - Oftentimes. Superb. Saw them live on Tuesday, even better…. Also bought The Strange death Of Liberal England - Drown your heart again (thanks for bringing the album release to my attention Lukey) - If this is half as good as the Forward March EP then it’ll be a very worthwhile purchase indeed….

Anyone heard the new album by Glasser? Not sure what to make of it. I think it may just be a trendy version of Enya….

The Glasser album is ok. A bit hit & miss and not usually my type of thing but Home is a good track. I know what you mean by trendy Enya though. If you live in London she’s playing a free gig at the Macbeth in Hoxton on Monday.

The new Swans album is immense - My Father Will Guide Me up A Rope to the Sky. I can’t stop listening to it.

Anyone catch Janelle Monae on Jools Holland last night? It was a shame she was ill, still gave a decent performance though. Shame she couldn’t have repeated this from Letterman. As the first comment says, she’s proof that James Brown was still shagging 25 years ago.

I only saw the first few bands, will check iPlayer out later to see the rest…

I particularly enjoyed the beginning when Jools said something along the lines of “It’s a special day, it’s a special day indeed. IT’S BOB GELDOF’S BIRTHDAY! And to celebrate that fact, here’s CEE LO GREEN!” And Cee Lo Green burst into performing his ‘Forget You’ (aka Fuck You’) single… haha

Good call on the C.W.Stoneking, am liking him. His live video’s on YouTube are hilarious… I can’t understand anything he says in between songs! There’s one of Seasick Steve introducing him on stage & he says “this kid is lost in the 1920’s, like really lost…” haha… sums it up pretty well.

He reminds me of The Tallest Man On Earth, although The Tallest Man On Earth is bit more coherent!

The Tallest Man On Earth - The Gardener (youtube video)

Have been mostly listening to Jaga Jazzist all day today, bloody love ‘em…
