Robin Van Persie’s Chocolate Leg - 27 January 2012 11:48 AM

Stayed up late last night to watch the debate.

Romney absolutely slammed Gingrich, destroyed him to be frank. Mitt had a new debate coach and it showed.

Particular highlight, aside from what is surely now the end to the political career of that odious little man:

After Romney takes moral high ground over attack ads, Gingrich accuses him of doing the same thing (lying/misquoting). Romney says he doubts the ad is his, and he doesnt know of what ads his campaign is running.

2 mins later, Wolf Blitzer reveals the ad ends with Romney declaring ‘I approved this ad”.

Just when Gingrich was getting serious, the Republican establishment rallied round to shut him down. Some big time journos reckon the debate audience were selected to be deliberately pro-Romney as well.

Romney will now win Florida, probably comfortably. Basically, it’s all over folks, bar a 4th Newt resurrection in the next 4 days.

It’s coming to something, though, when Gingrich - an odious little shit - is the second-best choice of candidate for the Republicans. Romney is clearly the number one, and I believe those allegations of him being a ‘Massachussets Moderate’ (like that’s a bad thing?). Let’s just hope Barry gets his act together now and takes him down. Romney’ll be a tougher beat than McCain, especially if he picks a credible running-mate (Huntsman, maybe? Or one of the less mental evangelicals, if such a person exists).

I love America, but fuck me, it’s full of nutcases. I get a bit down on Gove & Cameron & Lansley with their horrible free-market reforms to public services, but still - at least they’re not boasting about how many people they’ve killed or how much they hate gays or owt.

Oh but thats only the half of it.

In his 1984 book, Window of Opportunity, he suggested that private space flight would open up business opportunities for space tourism—specifically for honeymooning couples. As he put it: “Imagine weightlessness and its effects and you will understand some of the attraction.”

I genuinely hate Gove that fact that he clearly tries to hide his Aberdeen accent and yet it still comes through amuses me greatly.  I’m not overly fond of the phrase class traitor but he fits the bill.

Romney’s money helps him thrash Newt in Florida.

Also, this is very true:

Mitt Romney speaking yesterday in Arizona: “In business, you can’t spend more than you take in.”

Entirely unrelated fact: In January Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign spent $19m, and raised just $6.5m.

So, Mitt did pretty well on Super Tuesday but then got creamed in Alabama and Mississippi. He’ll still win, but like the guardian said his current argument that he is the only one with realistically enough delegates so everyone should vote for him is a bit like saying he brought the ball so unless they pick him 1st he’ll take it home and spoil everyone’s fun.

Anywho: good old Mitt has had a rather troublesome relationship with old uncle truth of late, and I decided to write about it:

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: why the tangled web of Mitt’s mendacity has complicated his path to the Presidency

So, Rick Santorum has pulled out…

... Presumably he had no other option because he doesn’t believe in birth control.

Some lovely innuendo right there lads. At two points in the speech he actually said the American people “raised me up” to more than he would have been and were ‘the wind beneath my wings”.

Must’ve had some sort of bet going

I’ll be honest the Republican race has slipped below my radar recently, now that Santorum has pulled out (lololololol) that’s that isn’t it? The Republicans finally have to accept they’re stuck with Romney now? Or will Gingrich descend from his Moon base and douse Romney with cheap fuel and claim the nomination against all odds?

Yeah no its over.

Romney and Obama are both attacking each other, Romney and the GOP have pooled their fundraising so they can get bigger donations and no-one in the GOP liked Newt Gingrich in the first place.

Gingrich will keep going though, he really has nothing to lose. Except his little remaining dignity. And his money. A cheque he filed to enter the ballot in one state bounced this week. Which is delightful.

On one hand I’m glad Santorum has pulled out (fnar fnar) as I find his views repugnant. On the other hand, I quite wanted to see the Republicans tear themselves apart for a few more weeks. Oh well, at least the Daily Show will be able to focus on more hilarious Romney mistakes.

words are easy, I’ve found it’s actions you have to judge Obama on. This is a guy who’s said some rather less liberal things about gay marriage in the past.

edit. I’m assuming that was in reference to gay marriage, otherwise don’t I look quite the fool

I agree, but surely ending don’t ask don’t tell and battling the defence of marriage act in the courts is pretty good. Surely hard to want a unifying president then criticise the guy for occasionally hedging his bets? Certainly he should’ve come out on this earlier and clearer, but understandable given the split opinions within the country?
