Might be funny if it wasn’t so depressing. Really shocking stuff. It’s her son I feel sorry for really.

Seen this floating around facebook and stuff, absolutely vile.

I find this really troubling because, and I’m aware this probably makes me sound like a patronising dick, it raises so many questions about what is to be done.  I’m openly an advocate of physical force anti-fascism and zero tolerance, but also mindful of the fact that everyone from the centre right, to liberals, to the radical left have failed to adequately make the arguments about multi-culturalism, migration, freedom of movement (admittedly, that’s only relevant to those further on the left mostly) etc. open and mainstream.  I think it is completely right that most opposition to stuff like this is principle based, and it’s easy to call people like this complete scum.  But it doesn’t change the fact that opinions like this account for a significant minority amongst people in this country, and these opinions are, if anything, growing.  Reminds me of the situation you had in SE London in the 1990s where people got complacent about the BNP.  Where local Labour parties didn’t bother canvassing and paid no real heed to the threat from the far right’s arguments on immigration policy.  Instead, the BNP were the only group actually going door to door in the estates of Bermondsey, planting seeds, meeting people - everyone else just sat back and turned their nose up and complacently just thought British people wouldn’t be so susceptible to such disgusting arguments.  The BNP may have largely fucked themselves (which is funny, of course), but groups like the EDL strike a chord with a worrying amount of people.  People have short memories, and whilst I still believe opinions like hers are definitely in the minority, it was not much less than 20 years ago that skinheads were able to pretty much physically take over the streets in some sections of London, and actually out number anti fascists.  At the same time, it’s hard not to look at a video like this and come to any conclusion other than this woman is complete fucking pond life and beyond help.  I mean, how do you have dialogue with someone like that.?  Fucking depressing, either way.

Makes me sick. When I think of British identity I think of these morons who have ruined any chance of me having any national pride. It’s disgusting.

Hope they find her, and take that kid away from her - don’t need another racist bigot in the world. I wonder what experience she’s had directly with people to make her think like that, or does she just read the wrong paper? actually no, I doubt she reads at all.

I’d love for her to find out her heritage.
The chances of her being purely English are slim to none.
Most people I know, myself included, have grandparents of different nationalities (even if that is sometimes other home countries)

In my view it was partly complacency from Labour originally, however in recent years it’s a bit more sinister. Unfortunately, some local Labour apparatchiks would rather lose a seat to the BNP than lose a seat to a more credible party who they would have to work harder to win it back from. That way, next time round they can unite under and campaign on a robust anti-fascist platform than have to fight the election on local or national issues.
I’m sure this isn’t true of the overwhelming majority of Labour members, but some people are only capable of seeing politics as a tactical game.

Fortunately, now the BNP is effectively bankrupt they can’t mobilise as well as they did previously in the way you describe. I think that’s why you see a lot of them moving away from party politics and joining EDL events. Also, since the party had to legally admit non-white members, some members quit and ran in local elections as independents, which you have to wary of as they’re not stigmatised by the BNP associations and can campaign on community issues whilst underplaying the racism and can hoover up a few protest votes.

What people have got to understand is that a lot of people just don’t have experience of dealing with foreign people. I’m not talking about walking past them on the street, I’m talking about actual face-to-face interaction.

They have white family, white friends, only mixed with white kids when they were in school and (if they do work) work with white people. All they see are completely alien people who are ‘invading’ their land. It could be their road or their block or their estate and it, more than anything, scares them. When people who have almost no education and they feel threatened they shout out. Ever tried to tell a chav they’re in the wrong? All you get is ‘WHAT WHAT WHAT’ shouted in your face until you back down. They literally don’t know any better.

This is then perpetuated by rags like The Sun, The Express and The Mail who feed on that fear and then pump them full of stories every day about how the Poles are taking our jobs (they’re not) and how all Muslims are living in 8 bedroom council houses (they’re not either). You’ll always see stories about how they are sponging but when was the last time you heard a feel good story about a poverty stricken Muslim kid who has worked their way up to being a Doctor or a Scientist? You haven’t because that story doesn’t perpetuate the myth. That story isn’t filled with fear.

There was a story about Levi Roots that was on the front pages about him ‘stealing’ Reggae Reggae sauce and it got massive coverage. When it was eventually thrown out of court, the story got shunted to page 27. I’m not linking this story to his race, just the fact that one story (the crime) is given more coverage than the other (his innocence).

It’s too easy to just say they’re scum or whatever because that’s what they are. That isn’t going to stop anything though is it?

that’s an essential point about the media. This gets taken and twisted out of all proportion by the papers you mentioned.

It’s the kid I feel sorry for, what a mess she is.

The agency I work for is 90% Polish/Eastern European, although some of them don’t talk much they are pretty much sound and hard working. Never had a problem with them, majority of them are polite and well mannered.

She has been arrested. Good news.

I can’t stomach to watch these videos, it’s just cringeworthy. I don’t even get angry at these people, it like being angry at a coffee table for banging your knee into it. They’re genuinly so far disconnected from reality, let alone common decency, that I pity them first and foremost.

Funnily enough, things like that don’t bother me that much. There are always going to be a small minority of people like that, who are probably past saving to be honest. I’ve had stuff like that directed at me before (especially in Edinburgh, must be something in the water down there), and most of the time you can just brush it off.

What gets me more is when you’re talking to people who you assume are intelligent and open-minded, and then they come out with some qausi-BNP logic out of nowhere. I’m always more annoyed by people who should no better, than people who haven’t had a proper upbringing.
