Okay, wits end time. As good as PES11 is, the shooting on it is IMPOSSIBLE. It either goes over, goes straight at the ‘keeper or goes so far wide it hits the corner flag. Heading is appalling too, especially from crosses.

Been playing NHL ‘11 all week. It’s good but really tough. Finally got my first online win tonight. Flyers 2-1 Redwings.

Highly recommended.

Out of interest, you on PS3 or Xbox?

Heading is frustrating. The amount of time the strikers flap at a sitter is massively aggravating. But you’ll get used to it - you’ll find yourself getting to grips with the game and then you’ll reap the rewards.

I only play online Master League now because my Internet connection is good enough to run it and it’s basically better than playing against the computer, which makes ball retention impossible because it misplaces your passes so wildly.

Shooting is a weird one.  PES11, more than ever, is a game of fine margins. So many factors contribute to shot accuracy - pressure from opponents, angle of body, shot-power gauge, etc… sometimes just having a dig when there’s nothing on can do the trick if you’ve got a good sight of goal and your player is well shaped to shoot.

I’ve taken some time out from New Vegas as there’s DLC due out just before Xmas. I’m actually now playing Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. I never played it back in the day as I had a PS2. Bethesda’s RPG games have, in some ways, ruined gaming for me as most other games now seem a bit dull in comparison. I think the Call Of Duty games are jobby.

Oblivion is literally the best game ever made, is it not?

Never played Morrowind, would have to buy a half decent pc to run it, even now. lol.

Oblivion is great. Levelling up was a bit problematic, though. Traditionally in RPG’s each enemy would have their own level in comparison to yours which meant that there were certain places in the gameworld you couldn’t go because the enemy would be too strong for you unless you levelled up and improved your character. What this done was kind of create a restriction and you had to wait until later in the game before you could safely access these parts of the world.

In Oblivion all the enemies levelled up with you which kind of made the whole process redundant as you could go anywhere safely. You could be an arena champion at level 1, no bother. They made this choice because they didn’t want to restrict the world from you when you first begin the game. A lot of people say this is why Morrowind is the superior game in the series.

Did that all make sense or was it horrendously explained ?

No, it makes sense. I just had such a wonderful time in Oblivion that I don’t think any game will ever top it. Mass Effect 1&2 and KOTOR and Fahrenheit game close mind you.

Mass Effect series only just pips it I reckon, I’m absolutely obsessed with everything to do with it.

Oblivion is a beautiful game though, the world is beautiful and it has one of my favourite scores ever in any game or film.

Totally agree, it was everything gaming should be. Ultimate escapism, every detail was perfect. Must have poured hundreds of hours of my life in to it. I got an Xbox copy of Morrowind, still looks good for last gen, it won’t rival Oblivion but still definately seems playable.

Funny that we mention Mass Effect and Oblivion last night.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 were announced last night at the VGA’s. Next year’s looking excellent already.

I’ve been on a bit of a nostalgia trip recently and have found a load of old game intro movies on Youtube. It’s prompted me to ask you lot - what’s your favourite video game intro?

I think mine has to be one of these:

I admit that that doesn’t surprise me.  While it looks quite slick, essentially it’s just driving a bunch of cars about.  I can’t see how that doesn’t get old, and very quickly.

Been playing this a lot recently. I thought the second one was brilliant, one of my favourite games I’ve ever played. I really got into it so I was very excited for Brotherhood but I’m a little dissapointed. I’m not sure why but it feels like Assassins Creed 2.5 even though it is a full game. It’s still great fun but the second game was better IMO.

Indeed, the animation is pretty horrid. I think it was the atmosphere of that game that charmed most people into loving it, obviously there’s more to it than that. I put in literally hundreds of hours, Richard.

A new engine with better animation and more varied fighting moves/skills etc. will be a joy to behold.

If anyone is into arcade racer’s then check out Split/Second, it’s the digital embodiment of awesome. You can pick it up for tramp money now, as well. Try the demo at least won’t you ?

Bizarrely, as I asked the question….

I’m led to believe that it is in effect Assassins Creed 2.5.

They did Rome and spent so long on it that it got massive and they opted to add in a few ideas and turn it into a stand alone game rather than an add on (these are dying on their arse atm).

There will be an AC3 in a different time period with a different character.
Maybe echoing back to Ezio in the same way his echoed back to Altair?

That’s been sitting on my shelf for ages, untouched. I liked the idea of shit just falling down around ‘cha. I really must have a crack soon.

Then I hereby, officially, challenge you to a duel, sir. The world shall be at a stand still as we collide in a battle that will decide once and for all who is least rubbish!

Funny that we mention Mass Effect and Oblivion last night.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 were announced last night at the VGA’s. Next year’s looking excellent already.

New Elder Scrolls isn’t gonna use the current Oblivion engine, thank christ!

Split Second is pretty awesome, I can vouch for that.  Re-bought Mass Effect 2 yesterday for £10, not sure why I didn’t finish it first time around.

Anyone rate Bio Shock 2 Finished it a while ago and really enjoyed it, pretty trippy. I’m hoping to get A Creed for Christmas.

I am currently playing Prince of Persia which is average. I yearn for a new Tomb Raider game….
