Le Arse, Liverpool and Spurs have one, so why not us lot, eh?

No idea ho we’re top at the moment with our current injury list, but I’m well impressed with how we’ve coped with it considering other teams in our position get dicked 8 - 2.

I think our performance today was one of our best this season, I know we only scored 2 in comparison to 8 and 5 like we have in other games, but I thought we were excellent today, it was the best we’ve played in months. I honestly can’t pick out a bad performance (except Evra in the first half, improved in the 2nd half), Carrick’s been great for about 4 or 5 games now, Valencia was as good as I’ve seen him in the last 12 months. Also If Jonny Evans plays like that again for the rest of the season we should be fine at the back, the key word being IF. He should have scored at least one though, same with Phil Jones.

W could realistically pick up 12 points from our 4 Christmas fixtures, Fulham is the toughest one.

Today’s performance was excellent indeed. Great to see some slick passing again and good link up play, i really do think Wellbeck really adds something when we are passing it around, it’s not so much his movement with the ball, off it he creates so much space for others and give’s us another option.

Hard to believe that if City even drew today, then we would have the same record, and yet everybody is going on about how strong they look. Good Christmas list for us, the away game at Fulham is about the toughest we have, a win there would give great confidence for the remaining games. This is usually our time of the year, it looks to be looking up a bit. Michael Carrick is underrated in my opinion, i know he has his flaws, but he does a very good job in my opinion and sitting beside somebody more accomplished would suit him down to the ground.

I really think we do need to strengthen in the midfield though, not necessarily Sneijder, but we really need somebody in there.

Without trying to sound too over the top, I honestly think Welbeck has the potential to be a truly great player (for both Utd and England for years to come). He’ only 21, seemingly has exactly the right attitude to football and life in general, being grounded and down to earth.

He has that ‘rangey’ style, great movement and pace, a good shot… with the potential for lots more improvement as he develops. He will develop physically too, even though he’s already very strong.

I was in the middle of writing in the ‘this weekend’s fixtures’ thread that Michael Carrick has been really excellent recently, then he goes and scores a great goal. I stopped because it would seem like I was jumping on the bandwaggon.

I really like Phil Jones, Nani was excellent, Rooney was awesome, I really enjoyed that performance.

Despite my love for him, and his obvious talent, I’ve thought for a while that we play better without Hernandez. I think Welbeck adds fluidity and is a lot better on the ball. Obviously Javier is a better player and goalscorer, but at times he finds it very hard getting involved with the link-up play.

I still think that Hernandez is a better impact player than a starter. And I agree that we need someone in the middle that isn’t a worldie like Sneijder. Of course, it would be lovely to have a player like that, but I think anybody from Rodwell to Gaitan can make the difference.

Carrick was excellent today, though.

Will check the highlights later, but I think Carrick gets a lot of bad press. It’s clear against basel we missed him in there. He’s a good midfielder.

as for the united thread, I’m all for it!

How is berba SO out of favour at the momentl? Macheda is ahead of him it seems. Feels like I haven’t seen him play for ages.

Agree with the Welbeck comments. Not world class yet, but such great potential. I’d like to see him a regular starter up top. How was he today?

Very much so. I think he finds it very difficult to get involved unless we are always on the attack. Whereas Wellbeck will drop a little and link up and make a long run with the ball at his feet. Hernandez is fantastic, i think he is up there with the best in terms of striking ability and will top the goalscoring charts some time soon, i just see Wellbeck fitting in better at the moment.

January will be very interesting for us, i really really hope we bring in a midfielder, i think we must. Gaitan i have seen a bit not as much as id like but hear good things, the price tag is a bit steep. I’m all for bringing in a big name, but i think the player must suit our style. I’m not sure Senijder would…..but hey, it’d be fun finding out.

I really hope the rumours are true about Fergie looking at Rhodes. I’d love him at United, that means we could finally sling out Macheda and Diouf, both have looked utterly hopeless whenever they get a chance.

No Macheda’s not ahead of him, he’s been injured, got injured in the Palace game in the Carling Cup and went off at half-time, today was the first time he’s been in a squad since, although he was only an unused sub. Berba scored the week before that against Benfica as well, I guess he’s a decent option to have in case of injuries.

The game came on at 6:50 A.M. here in the states. Rooney scored 1 minute in and I thought “Okay were good” and went back to sleep. Kind of mad I didn’t watch the rest of the match because I haven’t seen Carrick put in a decent performance in AGES!!! Good for him. I hope his decent form continues.

What’s actually happen with Macheda? He came on as a sub back at the end of the 08/09 season in a few games and scored a couple of goals (including a late winner against villa if memory serves) which kept you guys top and pipped us to the title. Wasn’t he meant to go on and be world class? What happened there?

The kid got lucky, I assume. He had a load spell at Sampdoria and scored once. He’s been completely useless this season.

I don’t get how people are shocked that Macheda isn’t making the standard. He came on, at a very young age, saved us in a couple of games and everybody wanked all over it saying he had the potential to be the best in the world. For the record, i think he could very well end up a very good striker, but getting the game time at OT is going to be near impossible for him. I think a loan spell at another Premier League club or maybe a Championship club would do him the world of good.

Another thing i think should be taken into consideration, players sometimes don’t offer a massive lot on the pitch, but off it can be a great help to other players within the squad. From what i have seen, Macheda seems to be one of the boys so to speak. Rio, Nani, Rooney etc all seem to get on with him exceptionally well and having him around is probably good for morale etc. By no means am i saying he should be kept there just for them, or that they need him around, just that just because he is not out there scoring all the time, does not mean there is no contribution.

It wasn’t shock that he didn’t progress, that happens, but he literally (richard) seemed to disappear as quickly as he appeared. i’m not one to keep up with utd reserve team affairs too closely, so I wasn’t sure if he was injured, stuck in the reserves, on loan, under used or what.

At reserve team level, the lad was pretty unstoppable, it just isn’t happening for him at senior level it seems. Shame.

Rock up, help Utd top our league title record and than not even have the good grace to stick around and turn into a top level player.

Frankly, that’s just rude. cheese

Surprised it’s taken this long for this thread to pop up.

You are cunts for poaching our best players, but on the flip-side to that I do love how down the years we were able to live vicariously through you as you continuously decimated Arsenal while at the time we were total shit (after all, you were doing it with some of our best players). A period in our history I like to refer to as ‘most of my lifetime’. During that time, highlights such as Teddy Sheringham being heckled by Arsenal fans, singing/saying ‘where’s your medals, Teddy?’, only for him to be part of the team that achieved the treble later that very season, and the time when we played each other on the last day of the season, which was all over for us at the time and you lot needed a win to ensure you beat Arsenal to the title, Les Ferdinand scored early on, a pretty clever goal, but I’ve never seen a crowd that has just witnessed a goal their team had scored at the right end fall so silent, the ground, although completely sold out, sounded empty, like a B Team game. Thankfully you came back to win 2-1 and everyone went home happy. It was stuff like that which kept me genuinely interested in football, because fuck me we were awful.

Haha that was brilliant, the look on Fergie’s face was priceless. I would say it took some real balls to do that, however it was more likely stupidity than bravery

5 - 0 at Craven Cottage was unexpectedly awesome, I thought they’d pose more of a challenge. Can’t wait to see the game on Match of the Day.

Seemed all to easy in the end. Bad news on Jones and Young, our defense is losing men by the minute.

I love how we have picked up form and are looking good right now, i just hope that this form does not convince Fergie that we are fine in midfield.

Strange starting line-up for todays game, Carrick and Valencia have been two of our best midfielders recently, yet they both seem to be in the back 4. Darron Gibson is starting, which hopefully won’t backfire but it doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence, and there’s 4 strikers on the bench- surely one of those (Diouf or Macheda) could have been replaced with Pogba, considering we don’t have any midfielders on the bench. Good thing it’s only Wigan.

Let’s hope this doesn’t come back to bite us. I think we win but it’ll be a nail biter. Gibbo will score a cracker today. Martinez has Wigan playing well as of late.

Yeah they have been playing decent recently, but their away record against top sides, particularly us, is awful. We usually beat them quite comfortably. I should really stop talking now, I’m saying so many things that I might regret later.

I <3 Lindegaard. There’s something to be said for having a fan of the club on the pitch. Most of these guys treat it as a job so it’s nice to see him out there getting a game. Plus he’s absolutely mental on the twitter.
