I feel physically sick, it’s an absolute disgrace that it has come to his and before any fans of the other Scottish teams start crowing about this you should bear in mind that this could be potentially fatal for the SPL.

Let me first clarify that this question is born out of genuine ignorance to this type of situation, and not an attempt at sarcasm or some kind of cheap dig at you. But fatal how exactly? What will happen if this goes ahead?

The SPL will be very hard to market without Rangers. TV deals, sponsorship money etc.will greatly reduced if renewed at all. It’s also worth mentioning that the large Rangers travelling support puts a great deal of money in to the coffers of other Scottish clubs.

Rangers are not going to disappear altogether, the worst case scenario is that a new company is formed but it will take years for the club to truly recover.

If Rangers do go under then amateur and SFL clubs will be rubbing there hands.

An AFC Wimbeldon style new team coming up through the ranks would bring in massive crowds for them

I suppose regular away days to Ochilview and Glebe Park will make for an interesting change of scenery

Whilst it will undoubtedly have an effect on Scottish football, I think the idea that it will be fatal is an exaggeration.

It didn’t kill Scottish football in the 80’s when rangers were mid table and pulling in as low as 8k crowds. Nor when we were mid table and minutes away from admin in the 90’s.

It will probably be a tougher task for rangers to come back from this than those examples but Scottish football will plug on regardless.

If you can’t be sensible (and I suspect you can’t) then I’ll delete this thread and ban the worst offenders.

Derry Pele - You have about 15 minutes to delete that post or you’ll be banned. Cheers top hat

What will all those Celtic fans talk about now? Celtic and Rangers are permanently tied together by fate, I genuinely think that one cannot fully exist without the other. The clubs live and die for the Old Firm bragging rights, that and their formidable travelling numbers are why all the Scottish clubs voted to play each other four times in the first place. The title is a forgone conclusion every year, even with the points deduction, Rangers will still be comfortably second-placed for a while yet. Perhaps having a levelling out of club resources in the SPL might help the other clubs compete, but having Celtic romp the title every year doesn’t sound promising when the TV negotiations come back around.

The SPL needs Rangers, other than old firm games how many SPL matches do any of us watch? Maybe 1/2. Without that Sky would have no reason to buy the rights. Make a new side and instead of going back into the hell hole that is Scottish Fitba play in England. Jobs a good’n.

In the long run surely this could be beneficial.  Would help the club get rid of toxic debt/assets and build for the future from pretty much a clean slate. Just hope they don’t go down the path of Darlington with multiple administration (shouldn’t considering their stature)

If Rangers do go into administration, will this bar them from competing in Europe? Celtic fans may be happy, but the last thing Scotland’s co-efficient needs is 3 more years of awful performances, or Celtic will never get the lucky draws they need to scrape into the CL groups

Surely they’ll have the ten points deduction that everyone else gets. At least Motherwell will get into second. There are more than two clubs in Scottish football. If you start AFC Rangers I suppose it’ll make things a bit more interesting cause If I’m honest supporting the Old Firm seems boring.

In fairness, the banning was for something that is just everyday football banter in Glasgow and not of a sectarian nature but I understand why it might be best to nip it in the bus early as it doesn’t always stay as ‘banter’

I wouldn’t be surprised if the SPL bailed Rangers out in some way. I can’t see them going under even though it’s a massive possibility at the moment.

I believe it’s if it’s longer than a month in admin then we’re out.

Heartbroken is the best way of putting it. We won’t die though. If we did the removal of TV money and away ticket revenue would probably take out a few clubs with us. Scottish football needs every club improving, the champions going into administration shows how deep the problems we have are.

How does this happen? Why have they ‘suddenly’ got a £50m tax bill? How does it get so bad? Address it when it’s, say, I don’t know, £10m?

Don’t they realise that the Rangers games are the only ones that mean anything in their whole season?

They didn’t think they ever had to pay it back. They were investigated for using a form if payment that avoided paying tax for many years. The Bill is made up if tax, fines etc.
