EDIT: Also, I honestly can’t believe Jeremy Hunt and his shady dealings have just been forgotten about. The man was passing on information to a party in an international business merger! He was so transparently in Murdoch’s pocket, quite probably with Cameron’s explicit knowledge and consent. So obviously he gets punished by being given free rein to fuck about with pretty much the best thing about the country. But of course.
I can only assume Hunt is a supreme brown noser behind the scenes because he seems utterly useless as a secretary of state, especially in a job like health at a time like this, Cameron would have been hard-pressed to find anyone less qualified.
Call me a cynic but I often think stuff like that is as simple as “jobs for the boys”. All parties will employ people who play ball, tow the party line and tolerate gaffs as long as it’s “their guy”. When people get into ministerial posts it’s often because they have created little networks and cabals of power - connections that make their job safe. Or if not, soon nuture them if they stumble into a role. It’s only really possible to dislodge a minister if they have either done something so politically toxic that it damages the party irrevocably in the public eye and/or they do not have the internal political supporters to prop them up without a shit storm starting off.
My guess would be that Hunt is well connected within the party and civil service enough to cling on in there. If you were Cameron and you had one of “your guys” in a ministerial role, you’d only really want to kick him out if the position became untenable. Considering that Labour or the Lib Dems aren’t exactly offering much, I’d imagine his response to people saying “kick him out” would be “or what..?”.
I think you two have probably got the right of it here. Jeremy Cunt really is the definition of the career politician. He knows whose cock to suck and shite all else, but that makes him eminently qualified for political office. What a shithouse.
